Check Out Care Dimensions' Walk Team, Bad Assets -- and Be Challenged!

Posted on July 27, 2022 by Robin Ellington

Early in Walk season, Care Dimensions payroll manager Maura Santos knows exactly what she needs to do: register for the Walk, link to her Facebook page and rally her family and friends to donate. “For the 14 years I’ve worked at Care Dimensions I’ve always volunteered for the Walk,” she says. “My family and friends support my team and donate.”

Before moving to accounting, Maura was the special events administrator in Philanthropy for three years, which gave her insight on the Walk, fundraising and how the money raised supports a full complement of care for families experiencing an end-of-life journey. Five years ago, she helped organize her accounting department’s team, Bad Assets, now comprised of herself, Angelina Collins and Sandra Wedgwood. They’ve already exceeded their goal but have no plans to stop.

“Our team is a fundraising team,” Maura says simply. “We’ve walked in person and on one of the past two virtual Walks. But our main mission is to raise money, supported by friends and family and Facebook fundraising. It’s so easy to connect our team’s registration to Facebook. We’ve become influencers and fundraisers.”

When Maura and her family used Care Dimensions’ services for her father-in-law, Tony, it was a very positive experience for them. “I want to be sure others have the experience we did. I love what Care Dimensions is all about.

“I walked with two of my two kids right after my father-in-law died. The mood is so positive and promotes a nice energy. Yes, it’s in memory of people we’ve lost but it’s a happy type of memory with not a lot of tears. When you walk, you hear a lot of stories, meet a lot of people, and recognize their team T-shirts year to year. And I love that the Walk is in person again this year!”

Maura encourages all staff to get involved, even if they feel initially shy about fundraising. “It’s easy! Register for the Walk and then create a Facebook Fundraiser from the Walk page so it links to your Walk profile. Even if you receive only one donation, it’s one more than you had. Then, on October 2, come do the Walk with us at St. John’s Prep in Danvers and experience what it’s all about.”
