Grammys to Grants: Music Star’s Group Supports Care Dimensions

April 25, 2023

The Looking Out Foundation, a charitable organization co-founded by Grammy-award winning artist Brandi Carlile, recently awarded a $10,000 grant to Care Dimensions which will help fund the music therapy program over the coming year.

The Foundation supports “causes and organizations that often go unnoticed,” focusing on missions that are tied to things like the arts, human and civil rights, and health care. The Foundation, which has donated over $4 million around the globe since its inception in 2008, is supported by private donations as well as a portion of proceeds from concert ticket sales.

Each year, the Care Dimensions Music Therapy team makes thousands of patient visits, creating connections through music and crafting an environment that is tailored to each of those patient’s needs, whether they are happily singing along, quietly listening, or somewhere in between.

“Many people find that as they face advanced illness and move toward the end of their lives, they and their loved ones especially benefit from relationship-centered psychosocial support that includes music therapy,” said Li Kynvi, Creative Arts Therapy Coordinator at Care Dimensions and a Board-Certified Music Therapist. “The patient-preferred music is created live as the session unfolds – with compassion, sensitivity and clinical skill – precisely for those moments of connection, when people are at their most vulnerable. In this way we provide exactly what Brandi Carlile’s ‘Looking Out Foundation’ wants to do: amplify the impact of music through empowering people who otherwise might not have access. We’re thrilled to receive this grant that will help fund this work.”
