Care Dimensions Receives $500,000 Gift to Support Specialized Dementia Hospice Program

December 15, 2021

Danvers, MA – Care Dimensions, the largest hospice and palliative care provider in Massachusetts, is pleased to announce it received an exceptionally generous $500,000 gift from an anonymous donor in support of its specialized advanced dementia hospice program.

“Though many gifts are often motivated by a personal experience with Care Dimensions, our comprehensive support for patients and families who are living with Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias was the inspiration of this support as part of an estate settlement that directed its distribution be designated to support dementia and Alzheimer’s care, treatment, education and research,” explained Care Dimensions Vice President of Philanthropy Donna Deveau. “It’s remarkable not only for its generosity to us, but also to the care of residents of the 100 communities that we serve. So many families have been touched by effects of dementia, and this gift helped us provide much needed care.”

In 2020 alone, Care Dimensions cared for 390 patients with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease and 461 patients with other dementia diagnoses and invested well over $1.9 million to support the program and these patients. Care Dimensions’ specialized Dementia Support Program creates a personalized care plan for each hospice patient suffering from dementia, whether they are experiencing moderate or severe symptoms, to maximize their comfort and quality of life.

The program offers a much-needed layer of assistance to patients and families, reducing hospitalizations and emergency room visits, and relieving some of the stress on caregivers. Care is provided to patients residing in skilled nursing, assisted living facilities, or in their own homes. No one is denied care because of financial status, level of insurance coverage or ability to pay.

The interdisciplinary hospice team addresses the patient’s physical, cognitive, spiritual, and emotional needs while providing support for family and professional caregivers. All clinical staff and volunteers receive specialized training developed by the Alzheimer’s Association of MA/NH to understand the unique needs and challenges of caring for patients with dementia.
