People’s United Bank: Steadfast Walk for Hospice Supporter

Over the last decade, People’s United Bank has experienced significant growth and expansion, now with more than 400 branches across six states, and 6,000 employees. But success and expansion have not distracted the bank and its charitable foundations from an unwavering commitment to community partnerships and giving. 

Karen Galbo oversees the bank’s charitable foundations, including a range of community partnerships, charitable giving programs and local community involvement initiatives that ensure People’s United is a strong leader in community betterment. As Executive Director of People’s United Community Foundation of Eastern Massachusetts, she applies the same philosophy to community impact that the bank applies to customers: positive results require long-term partnerships, a commitment to exceptional service and leveraging local resources.

Three decades ago, People’s United Bank (formerly Danversbank) saw the potential for Care Dimensions to make a positive local impact for those suffering serious and life-threatening illnesses, made a gift to support the Walk for Hospice, and has been a steadfast supporter ever since. “Care Dimensions consistently embraces the most seriously ill patients and their loved ones with compassion and care during the most difficult of days,” said Galbo. “We are proud to support its efforts to provide the support that families need, whether it’s today or in the future.”

Locally, People’s United Bank associates are engaged in the partnership with Care Dimensions. Beverly Branch Manager Deborah Kwong did her first Walk for Hospice in 2018 along with her young daughter, Natalie. This year, they will return to walk, and Deborah’s daughter will again volunteer in event set-up. “I am proud that People’s United Bank is such a vibrant contributor to the community where I work and live,” said Kwong. “I appreciate that I can share an experience with my daughter that not only is fun, but is a way to help teach her about life and the importance of supporting those in need.”
