Why I Walk: Spotlight on Becky Christie

Posted on August 17, 2020 by Care Dimensions
When Becky Christie lost her mother in 2014, she was inspired by the fact that her mother was always willing to help someone going through a hard time.  Becky decided to channel her grief and follow in her mother’s footsteps of helping others by becoming a volunteer for Care Dimensions in 2015.

Before COVID-19 disrupted the usual routine, Becky volunteered by providing companionship to patients at Putnam Farms in Danvers. Since visits have not been allowed during the pandemic, Becky has been delivering bereavement bags from Care Dimensions to families in Salem who have lost loved ones during the pandemic. She's also volunteering at the Kaplan House.

Becky has registered for this year's Walk for Hospice and is walking in honor of her friend, Paul Devoe. Paul was always the top fundraiser for an annual event Becky ran called "FREEZE Your TUSH Off for Charity," an ocean dip on New Year's Day.  Until the event ended in 2019, he willingly dipped into the frigid ocean to benefit the Salem Pantry. Paul died from pancreatic cancer on May 12, 2020 at only 56 years old.  His fundraising helped others and Becky is walking to honor his spirit of giving and resiliency.
