A Legacy of Compassion: One Woman’s Gift That Continues to Give

When longtime hospice volunteer and supporter Nancy Usher walked through the doors of Care Dimensions for the first time, she knew she had found her calling. Over the course of the next 13 years, Nancy quietly became a champion for the mission she so deeply believed in: comforting patients in the community, supporting grieving families, and even helping to make possible a specialized program at Care Dimensions for dementia patients and their loved ones.

But Nancy’s impact didn’t end with her time and compassion. Through a thoughtful planned gift, her legacy will continue to care for others for years to come.

After her passing, Nancy’s bequest to Care Dimensions has helped make three vital initiatives possible:

  • The replacement of the gazebo at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, which will soon again be a peaceful, welcoming space where loved ones can find solace together.
  • Funding for our music therapy program, which includes singing, instrument playing, movement to music, and listening, all tailored to the specific clinical needs of patients.
  • The launch of our dementia training certification, a comprehensive initiative to become certified in Dementia Care through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP). This certification initiative will set us apart as a leader in dementia care by demonstrating our deep commitment to clinical excellence and person-centered support.

"Planned gifts like Nancy’s are powerful ways to ensure that exceptional care continues for generations to come," said Heather Johnston, Vice President and Chief Development Officer. "Whether through a bequest, a beneficiary designation, or an option tailored to you and your family, your future gift can help sustain our programs, expand services, and support families when they need it most."

Your legacy can change lives, just like Nancy’s did.
