A Legacy of Compassionate Care

Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future

For over 20 years, the Kaplan Family Hospice House (known by many simply as "The Kaplan House") has provided compassionate care and support to thousands of patients and their loved ones during one of life’s most challenging journeys.

Our History
  • The vision for the Kaplan House began with Hospice of the North Shore (now Care Dimensions), recognizing the need for a dedicated hospice facility.
  • Years of research led to the selection of a location on Liberty Street in Danvers.
  • In 2005, the $8 million Kaplan Family Hospice House opened, becoming the first facility of its kind in Massachusetts.
A Special Place
  • The Kaplan House bridges the gap between hospital care and home care, offering:
    • Private patient suites with space for family and friends.
    • Welcoming common areas, a shared kitchen, and a serene chapel.
    • Beautiful gardens that provide peaceful views from every window.
  • More than just a building, the Kaplan House is defined by its dedicated team:
    • Skilled doctors, nurses, and certified nursing assistants.
    • Chaplains and social workers offering guidance and support.
    • Volunteers providing companionship and assistance.
    • Music therapists, pet therapy teams, and grief support specialists

"The Kaplan House was the best decision we made for our mother. The end for her was short, but the Kaplan House accommodated every need."

Expansion to Meet Growing Needs
  • Due to high demand, an expansion was necessary just a few years after opening.
  • In 2010, the Ayer Anderson Wing added:
    • Eight new patient suites across 7,500 square feet.
    • Increased capacity to care for 20 patients daily.

"Thank you all for taking such wonderful care of my father in his final days. I can't imagine a better place for him to end this journey and start another one."

Transforming Hospice Care
  • Before the Kaplan House, patients had limited options for end-of-life care:
    • Staying at home or entering a long term care facility.
    • Receiving care in a hospital, which lacked the warmth and privacy many desired.
  • Kaplan House changed that by providing hospital-level care in a homelike setting.
  • Families consistently praise the peaceful environment and exceptional care provided by the staff and volunteers.

The Kaplan Family Hospice House continues to be a beacon of hope and comfort, ensuring that patients and their families receive the care, dignity, and support they deserve.

Anniversary Gala

This June, we will mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Kaplan House with a special celebration at Kernwood Country Club in Salem, MA. This will be a time to honor caregivers and remember those who have passed, as well as raise funds for future needs at Kaplan. Tickets will be limited. Look for details this spring.
