A Tribute to Patrick: More Than a Therapy Dog

Posted on October 25, 2024 by Care Dimensions

Care Dimensions mourns the loss of Patrick, our pioneering therapy dog who touched countless lives during his eight years of service. Patrick passed away this week at age 16. In 2009, he became our first therapy dog, helping to establish a program that has grown tremendously over the years, bringing comfort and companionship to those in our care.

Originally trained as a service dog in Arizona, Patrick found his true calling at Care Dimensions, where his natural affinity for human connection made him perfectly suited for hospice work. At the Kaplan Family Hospice House and in various care facilities, Patrick had an extraordinary gift for reaching those who needed comfort most. He had a special way of connecting with patients who were withdrawn or lonely, often inspiring them to share cherished memories of their own beloved pets.

What made Patrick exceptional wasn't just his training—it was his genuine love for people and his intuitive understanding of their needs. He approached each patient with gentle compassion, whether offering a paw to hold or simply being a quiet, comforting presence. Even after his “retirement” in 2017, stories of Patrick's impact continued to surface, with families often recalling how he brought moments of joy during their most challenging times.

Patrick was equally beloved by our Care Dimensions staff, who fondly remember how his wagging tail and gentle presence could instantly brighten even the most difficult days.

Rest in peace, dear friend.
