DANVERS, Mass.—Care Dimensions, formerly Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, recognized several of its employees at the nonprofit’s annual Staff Appreciation and Awards Dinner held at the Burlington Marriott. Service awards were given to those with 3, 5, 10, and 15 years of service. In addition, several employees were recognized by their peers for outstanding service and compassionate care. The 2016 Rick Vescovi Memorial Award recipient is Danvers resident Jane Byrne, Admissions Referral Center Supervisor. This award is given in memory of Rick Vescovi, a dedicated social worker for Hospice of the North Shore. The Kathleen Schroot Memorial Award is given to nurses at Care Dimensions in honor of Kathleen Schroot, the first registered nurse hired at the organization in 1989. This year there were two recipients: Karla Martineau of Billerica and Abbie O’Grady of Danvers. The Lane-Butler Gift of Compassion is an annual gift to a Care Dimensions hospice aide honoring the life of David Lane and the compassion of his Care Dimensions Hospice Aide, John Butler. Ivan Gomez and Kenia Rodriguez, both of Lynn are this year’s recipients of the Lane-Butler Gift of Compassion.
Care Dimensions is the largest hospice provider to adults and children with advanced illness in Massachusetts. As a non-profit, community-based leader in advanced illness care, Care Dimensions provides comprehensive hospice, palliative care, grief support and teaching programs in more than 90 communities in Eastern Massachusetts and employs close to 500 staff. Founded in 1978 as Hospice of the North Shore, Care Dimensions cares for patients – in their homes, in long-term care and assisted living communities, in hospitals and at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, the first licensed inpatient hospice house in Massachusetts. A second, 18-bed hospice house situated on the Lincoln/Waltham line is currently under construction. Scheduled to be completed in late 2017, the Greater Boston Hospice House will feature 18 private patient suites, including two state-of-the-art pediatric suites. The new hospice House is not a hospital, nursing home or rehabilitation facility, but a home-like setting where hospice physicians, nurses and support staff provide hospital-level 24-hour care, and where visiting family members can spend quality time, including overnight stays, with their loved one.
