Care Dimensions Hospice Aide Recognized for Compassionate Care

October 11, 2023

Care Dimensions, the largest hospice and palliative care provider in Massachusetts, is proud to announce that one of its hospice aides is among the 10 winners of the annual Compassionate Service Award, presented by the Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts.

Care Dimensions Hospice Aide Luz Baez of Lynn, Mass., was selected for her essay about why she works in health care and about her patients’ impact on her career.

Baez wrote about caring for hospice patients in long-term care facilities: “I always treat them like they are my own. I put myself in their shoes and treat them with compassion, which is a combination of love, dignity, and respect. I remind myself that they’re someone’s grandmother, mother, sister, or wife. I think about how hard they worked all their lives. I come into their rooms like I’m going to a party. I greet them with a big smile and will do anything to make them happy and help them not worry.”

Before joining Care Dimensions four years ago, Baez provided personal care at an assisted living facility, two hospitals, and through a home health agency. “I like the way I feel when I’m doing something for someone with such a need,” she wrote. “Sometimes even a small thing like giving my patients a soft massage can mean a lot to them. I try to make them feel special. It’s a really rewarding job.”

The annual awards recognize compassionate care across Massachusetts and honor health care workers who provide exceptional service to their patients and families. This is the fourth consecutive year that at least one Care Dimensions hospice aide won the award.

“Luz was selected for this award because of her compassionate care—she is the true embodiment of those words,” said President and CEO Stephanie Patel, MD. “I am immensely proud of her and all our hospice aides for their dedication and compassion.”

“Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts appreciates the special care and dedication that firsthand health care workers provide for their patients and families,” said Christopher P. Goulet Sr., president of Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts. “This is an exceptional honor that we are proud to share with such dedicated people.”
