Innovative hospice nurse residency program

February 25, 2015

Care Dimensions, based in Danvers, Massachusetts, in collaboration with Regis College, announces the launch of an innovative new hospice nurse residency program.

"This training grant will allow us to introduce and mentor new nurses to hospice care,” said Diane Stringer.

This unique program is the result of a $249,000 Massachusetts Healthcare Workforce Transformation Fund Training Grant awarded as part of the Patrick Administration’s efforts to encourage economic growth by supporting innovation in the Commonwealth’s healthcare industry.

This program is offered to new graduates and experienced nurses who are new to hospice and palliative care. There will be two start dates for the program, August 1, 2015 and February 1, 2016. Three new graduate registered nurses and three experienced nurses will be accepted for each group.

“Hospice care requires specialized skills and experience that many nurses are not exposed to, which makes it challenging to recruit new staff,” said Diane Stringer, RN, President and CEO of Care Dimensions. "This training grant will allow us to introduce and mentor new nurses to hospice care.”

New graduates will have a six month residency and experienced nurses will have a three month residency. The nurse residents will be employed at Care Dimensions during the residency and, upon successful completion of the residency, offered a full-time position as a primary nurse case manager.

A commitment to work full-time for two years is expected for all nurse residents. The application deadline for the August 1 group is March 31. For more information, visit or email Alissa Brownson at [email protected]
