How can we help?
Care Dimensions, the largest hospice and palliative care provider in Massachusetts, is proud to announce that three of its hospice aides are among the 10 winners of the annual Compassionate Service Award, presented by the Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts.
The Care Dimensions hospice aides honored are Kathryn Camargo and Elizabeth Roman, and Senior Hospice Aide Cecelia Howard. All submitted short essays about why they work in health care and about their patients’ impact on their careers.
Kathryn Camargo wrote, “Whatever I can do to make someone’s experience better—even if it's a small thing—is important. As a hospice aide, I’m that person who the patient knows will be there in the morning to help them wash up and eat. It’s nice to feel needed and know that people can count on me.”
“It’s not easy to let someone you don’t know into your home, especially if you’ve just learned that you or your loved one needs hospice,” said Cecelia Howard. “So, I try to develop a trusting relationship where we all feel like family.”
"Being a hospice aide is more than a job; it is a gift. I feel blessed and privileged to be one," said Elizabeth Roman. "I treat my patients the same way I would want to be treated If I were in their situation, with respect, dignity and affection."
The annual awards recognize compassionate care across Massachusetts and honor health care workers who provide exceptional service to their patients and families.
"Our hospice aides are the true embodiment of compassionate care," said Care Dimensions President & CEO Stephanie Patel, MD. "Every day, while our 142 hospice aides provide personal care to patients, they talk, laugh and listen to precious stories of their patients’ lives, and share a special connection. I’m immensely proud of their dedication and compassion.”
“Now in our fifth year offering the Hamel-Lydon Compassionate Service Awards we continue to be both humbled and inspired by the many stories of selflessness, dedication and compassionate care that were shared by the many applicants,” said Christopher P. Goulet Sr., president of Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service of Massachusetts. “It is our honor to present this year’s awards to the recipients and their respective organizations who make a real difference in the lives of their patients and families.”
