Why I Support the Walk for Hospice: Our Mission and Our Community

In the 19 years Dale Lemure has worked as a hospice aide at Care Dimensions she has made it her goal to help alleviate the suffering and loneliness of her patients. “Patients can get closer to someone who cares,” she says. “Being an aide is the hardest and most important work I’ve ever done in my life, as has getting the credentials to do so. My job matters to me and the people I support.”

She cherishes the teamwork she develops with local businesses, too, to support the Care Dimensions mission and the Walk for Hospice. She has developed relationships with businesses in the multiple communities where she sees her patients and they have rallied to her cause.

“Since I started working at Care Dimensions, I’ve asked businesses to donate to Care Dimensions. I’ve created true friendships with them,” Dale says. “They’ve been loyal to us, and some business owners even make personal donations to the Walk for Hospice because they believe in our mission. People want to give, not just donate.

“Our supporters recognize field work accomplished by aides and nurses is hard, especially during the COVID pandemic, and they know and appreciate that spending time with a dying patient is hard to do and that no one should die alone.”

Lofty goal
This year, Dale made a commitment to raise more money for the Walk for Hospice than she ever has, and she met and exceeded her goal midway through the fundraising campaign. She’s raised $5,635 so far, and is still going.

One of her customers is Pamela Congely, owner of and head of the design team at Flowers & More in Peabody, who has known Dale and supported Care Dimensions for more than a dozen years.

“When my father passed, nothing like today’s hospice existed,” Pamela said. “A lot of people are alone at the end of their lives. If people don’t have families who can help them, then who does it? Supporting Care Dimensions hospice is important to me because they help families when they need it the most.”

Continuing the mission of support for future families is important to Dale, too.

“The Care Dimensions staff has proven our value on the front lines during the pandemic. My supporters, Care Dimensions’ supporters, have nothing but praise for the nursing assistants and nurses going into the unknown. With COVID still a health threat to many, we’re still in the unknown.”
