GivingTuesdayNow: Thanking our Hospice Heroes

Posted on April 28, 2020 by Lisa Conti

Undaunted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Care Dimensions continues to provide expert compassionate care for patients with advanced illnesses and their families. However, the realities of providing medical care and support, while also protecting our staff and our patients during this time are challenging – and we need your support.

To aid that effort, we are joining #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity on May 5, 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented challenges brought on by the pandemic.

Our clinical staff members are Hospice Heroes who are on the front lines working to overcome these challenges, and many of the solutions are expensive. While we continue to provide vital end-of-life care to those who depend on us, we’re seeing:

  • Increased demand and unbudgeted expenses for personal protective equipment (PPE). Our patient-facing staff use 1,700 PPE kits per week. Since the beginning of March, we’ve spent over $500,000 on PPE.
  • More people needing emergency financial assistance to cover the care they receive.
  • Increased need for expanded telehealth resources and technology for remote operational functions.

Our Hospice Heroes are committed to helping patients and families every day, regardless of the pandemic. Clinical Director Mary Pillay notes, “I've worked in a lot of places and I'm so impressed with Care Dimensions' commitment to safety and continual improvement. We understand the severity of COVID-19, but we're professionals and we know we can make a difference.  We're all here for a reason--because we care."

That caring commitment shines through in some online reviews written by family members of those we have served:

“Love, Love, Love our team! We could not be in better hands. They make a very difficult situation a little bit easier.”
  - Annette B.

“The staff and nurses were phenomenal in the end-of-life care they provided for my mother and us. Our family will be forever thankful for them and what they did for us.”
  - Jackie S.

“The most amazing group of people in healthcare. Everyone who has come to help with my mother has been incredible... not only are they professional, they genuinely care and treat us with such kindness, warmth compassion that goes beyond measure. They’re like family.”
  - Karen B.
